More than 700 MVMS students participated in a spirited mob dance tribute to Michael Jackson on Wednesday, February 10th. The mass performance took place outside on the blacktop at Mill Valley Middle School. Led by choreographer Cynthia Glinka of Larkspur, the kids showcased the dance moves they had learned in just four, one-hour sessions under Glinka’s expert tutelage.
Glinka was invited back to work with the students of MVMS after the success of the June 2009 Dance Fever mob dance. Along the way they learn how to interact and cooperate within a large group to make a successful and spirited display for the audience.
In addition to the dance routine on the outdoor court, the students spun, stepped, and whirled in a lunch-hour dance in the MVMS gym, exhibiting partner dances which the students learned from Glinka as well. Live music was provided by the Mill Valley Middle School Jazz Band.
Thanks to MVMS P.E. department head Sarah Petrini, Melissa Palmer and Andre Salinas.
With appreciation for your dedication.

Cynthia Glinka – Choreographer & Dance Coach
Mill Valley, CA – Ballroom Dance & Pop is in full swing at Mill Valley Middle School as 6th, 7th and 8th graders continue a unique four-week dance course taught by Marin dance coach and choreographer, Cynthia Glinka of Larkspur.
Glinka has been invited back by Kiddo!, the Mill Valley Schools Community Foundation, for an encore program after an enthusiastic response to the first dance unit held in June 2009. Glinka is currently teaching more than 700 students the SWING, MERENGUE, TANGO and POP, SHAKE & SHOUT, a Feb. 10, 2010 choreographed ‘mob-dance’ routine in the style of the late Michael Jackson.
Media representatives are invited to film the Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010 outdoor Pop, Shake & Shout routine and a lunch-hour dance held in the school gym. Students will have been released with parent signatures for Authorization to Reproduce Physical Likeness, allowing their child to be photographed and filmed by media.
“P.E. Department head Sarah Petrini has been instrumental in focusing the student body and teachers for a dance program finale that will no doubt top last year’s disco routine. The kids are really excited about the mob dance routine along with renewed interest in the traditional partner dances I’m teaching,” said Cynthia Glinka, director of Manners in Motion® and On The Dance Floor.
“Kiddo! is proud to be able to provide a dance unit for Mill Valley Middle School students again this year. In addition to meeting state curriculum standards, this multi-faceted program also gives students an opportunity to learn important social skills as well as have fun,” said Kiddo! Executive Director, Trisha Garlock.
Dances classes continue (Mon, Tues & Wed) through Feb. 10. The program will culminate with the entire school performing a Pop, Shake & Shout ‘mob dance’ on the outdoor court, followed by a lunch-hour dance in the school gym featuring ballroom dances students learned during the program, with music provided by the Mill Valley Middle School Jazz Band. The event begins at 12 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10 on the Mill Valley Middle School campus at 425 Sycamore Avenue, Mill Valley. The outdoor student ‘mob dance’ may be rescheduled due to rain.
